BREAKDOWN:
Since 1990, the Whisnant family has been delighting audiences with their signature traditional style. Jeff and Susan Whisnant are joined once again by their sons Austin and Ethan and longtime member Aaron Hise on their latest release: Good News. This exciting new recording features eleven songs of hope and inspiration from some of Southern Gospel’s most beloved songwriters.
This incredible album opens with the moving “So Much Love To Me.” Featuring Aaron Hise, this worshipful ballad praises Christ for His Unending Love for us. “The Lord Is Good” is a praise-filled anthem featuring Susan Whisnant. It boldly proclaims: The Lord is good and His Mercy endureth forever. So I will sing His praises! Jeff Whisnant takes the lead on the mid-tempo “Resting Place.” This tender track simply says: My faith has found a resting place in Our Lord who is steadfast and faithful. Each member is featured on the energy-filled title track that tells of the Good News of the Gospel. Jesus died and rose again to save us from sin. The Gospel Truth silences every lie and is still changing lives! Susan Whisnant is featured once again on the powerful, tender ballad “Healed In His Hands.” This incredible song reminds us that whatever is broken in your life, you can bring it to Him. You will be healed in His Hands. Ethan Whisnant takes the lead on the mid-tempo tune “Master Of The Storm,” which simply says: Jesus commands the storms. No need to fear for we know who is at the helm of our ship. “One Of These Days” is another fun, up-tempo song that features each member and looks forward to that happy day when we get to Heaven. Susan takes the lead again on the moving ballad “He Promised That He Would.” This powerful track reminds us that the promises of God are yes and amen. He works all things together for my good. His promises are true. Aaron Hise is featured again on the Rodney Griffin-penned “I Am The Water.” This well crafted song reminds us that Jesus is our source of Living Water and He is the well that will never run dry. He gives us life. “There’ll Come A Victory,” another fun, up-tempo tune, looks forward to the day when all the troubles of this world will be swept away as we step into Heaven. This stellar album closes with the declarative “We Go By The Bible.” This powerful song features Jeff Whisnant and says: The Bible is God’s Holy Word. It is the truth that we stand on. It is our anchor in every storm. Also included is a reprise of the title track.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
The Whisnants have gained a new fan in me with this project. I must admit that I had not seriously listened to them prior to this album. I am thoroughly impressed not only by their vocal talent, but their authenticity. Their love of Jesus Christ and desire to share the Good News is abundantly evident in each note and each lyric. This project features incredible vocals, meaningful songs, and top notch production quality. Highlights include: “Healed In Your Hands,” “No Wonder It’s Called The Good News,” “We Go By the Bible,” “He Promised That He Would,” and “Master Of The Storm.”
4.5 out of 5 stars!
