BREAKDOWN:
For thirty years, Liberty Quartet has shared the Gospel in song across the country. Royce Mitchell, founder and bass singer, presents this two-disc project as a celebration of this incredible milestone. Mitchell is joined once again by Paul Ellis (Lead), Will Arasmith (Baritone), Doran Ritchey (Piano/Vocals), and Peyton Olive (Tenor). This special project features thirty songs from across this stellar quartet’s career. Featuring covers and now beloved originals, fans old and new will be sure to enjoy this musical celebration.
Longtime Liberty Quartet fans will know that the group counts the Cathedrals as a major influence. This is clearly evident in the inclusion of Cathedral classics: “Ride That Glory Train,” “Climbing Higher And Higher,” “Wedding Music,” “I’ve Read The Back Of The Book,” “Everywhere I Go” and “The Plan Of Salvation.” Liberty Quartet pay homage to the original versions while making it their own. A great example of this is their groovy arrangement of “Everywhere I Go.” The swinging rhythm, encouraging lyric, and the smooth bass of Royce Mitchell make this a standout track. The group also covers several other Southern Gospel classics and hymns including: the Couriers’ “Statue Of Liberty,” The Hinsons’ “The Lighthouse,” “Hallelujah, I’m Free,” “It Is Well,” “He Rose,” “Holy, Holy, Holy,” “In The Arms Of Sweet Deliverance,” “Ride On,” and “The Old Account Was Settled.” Liberty’s incredible harmonies are showcased on a beautiful a cappella arrangement of “Holy, Holy, Holy,” and the powerful “It Is Well.” Peyton Olive delivers an incredible vocal on the second verse of this beloved hymn.
The group revisits many of their originals on this project as well. Royce Mitchell takes the lead on the tender “Won’t That Be Heaven,” and on the groovy “Just Stand.” Pianist and songwriter Doran Ritchey is featured on the moving, testimony mid-tempo ballad “I Made It Mine.” Peyton Olive takes the lead once again on “I’m His,” a powerful anthem that reminds us that we are God’s children and always in the grip of His Grace. “The Wonder Of His Love” and “He’ll Come Through” praise God for His faithfulness and His Everlasting Love. He is always right on time and will bring you through. “Great Day” is a fun, energy filled tune that features Paul Ellis and looks forward to the day we will enter Heaven. The jazzy “I Love Livin’ In Grace” is another standout track that should also be familiar to fans of Tribute Quartet. The rousing anthem “39 Chapters Later,” the powerful ballad “Til Mercy Sang,” the worshipful “We Seek Your Presence,” the hopeful “In The Day Of The Lord,” the encouraging “One Song Away,” and the energy filled “Miles of Miracles” round out this incredible project.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
30 years of ministry is an incredible achievement. God has truly blessed this group in many ways. This double album is yet another stellar addition to Liberty’s catalogue. Liberty Quartet continues to impress me not only with their vocal and musical ability, but their authenticity and dedication to sharing the Gospel in song. This project is not only a collection of thirty fantastic songs, but it is a testament to their desire to spread the message of hope and share God’s Love. Standout tracks include: “Everywhere I Go,” “I Made It Mine,” “The Wonder Of His Love,” “One Song Away,” “Just Stand,” “39 Chapters Later,” “Ride That Glory Train,” “Ride On,” “Holy, Holy, Holy,” and “It Is Well.”
5 out of 5 stars!
