THOUGHTS:

Gene McDonald teams with Legacy Five pianist Tim Parton for Hymns From The Heart. This project has been three years in the making and it lives up to the anticipation. This stellar collection of timeless songs of the church is sure to be a blessing to all who listen. Gene McDonald’s smooth bass shines on classics including: “He Hideth My Soul,” “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” “It Is Well With My Soul,” “Saved! Saved!,” and more. Each of these incredible hymns are given masterful treatments on this recording. Many of them are often covered, but Gene McDonald’s smooth bass paired with Tim Parton’s incredible piano playing makes this project standout among other hymns projects. The arrangements are simply stellar and the accompaniment is top notch. McDonald’s range continues to amaze me with each new recording. This project once again shows that he is not only an incredible bass singer, but an incredible singer period. Hymns From The Heart is one of McDonald’s finest recordings to date in my humble opinion.
