Joseph Habedank is one of Southern Gospel Music’s most beloved soloists. A dynamic voice and powerful testimony; his music resonates with listeners across the country. Habedank pays tribute to another titan of Christian Music, Steven Curtis Chapman. Chapman is considered one of Contemporary Christian Music’s most formative vocalists and most captivating songwriters. The Great Adventure features twelve incredible songs from Chapman’s early career. Habedank approaches these songs with deep respect and undeniable sincerity. It is clear that these songs helped shape Habedank’s own style.
This fantastic tribute opens with the driving anthem “The Great Adventure” and the surrender of “Dive.” These hits are given a great treatment here which remains true to the originals. Habedank is joined by Steven Curtis Chapman for a stellar duet on “For The Sake Of The Call,” which simply says: I will follow Jesus wherever He leads simply because of His Love for us and because He called us to go. “Lord Of The Dance” praises Christ as the reason for our lives. I am the dancer and He is the Lord of the dance! “I Will Be Here” is a beautiful love song that captures the warmth of the pure God-given covenant of marriage. Joseph’s wife Lindsay joins him for this deeply moving ballad and their blend is incredible. “Dancing With The Dinosaur,” while a fun and upbeat tune, has a powerful and important message: We cannot let conscience become extinct. The Truth cannot be ignored! “His Eyes” is a beautiful reminder that God is always watching over us. His eyes are always upon you. “No Better Place” simply. Yet powerfully proclaims: there is no better place on Earth than the road that leads to Heaven. “His Strength Is Perfect” is a beautifully vulnerable ballad that reminds us that in Christ we can do all things. When our strength is gone, His strength is perfect. The weak become strong in Him. “Heaven In The Real World” and “More To This Life” offer listeners the hope of Jesus Christ. This beautiful tribute closes with another fan favorite track “My Redeemer Is Faithful And True.” This incredible song simply praises Christ for His Faithfulness. His Mercies are new everyday. Everything He has said, He will do.
FINAL THOUGHT:
JOSEPH HABEDANK DELIVERS A DEEPLY AFFECTIVE AND INCREDIBLE TRIBUTE TO A TRUE TRAILBLAZING LEGEND OF CHRISTIAN MUSIC. I MUST ADMIT THAT I HAD NOT REALLY FOLLOWED CHAPMAN’S MUSIC GROWING UP. BUT WHILE LISTENING TO THE RECORD, I DID RECALL HAVING HEARD SEVERAL OF THESE SONGS AT SOME POINT AT CHAPEL SERVICES IN SCHOOL. HOWEVER, THE SONG THAT STOOD OUT THE MOST WAS “I WILL BE HERE.” I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG ON TIM DUNCAN’S SOLO ALBUM. DUNCAN, ONE OF MY FAVORITE BASS SINGERS OF ALL TIME, SANG THE SONG FOR HIS WIFE AND IN AN IMPRESSIVE HIGHER REGISTER. IT ALWAYS STUCK WITH ME SO IT WAS GREAT TO HEAR IT AGAIN ON THIS PROJECT. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: “I WILL BE HERE,” “HIS STRENGTH IS PERFECT,” “MY REDEEMER IS FAITHFUL AND TRUE,” “THE GREAT ADVENTURE,” AND “FOR THE SAKE OF THE CALL.”
