BREAKDOWN:

Family groups are a beloved staple of Southern Gospel Music. One such group is the Mylon Hayes Family of North Carolina. This incredible family has strong roots as their patriarch Mylon Hayes traveled with his family for years: the legendary Hayes Family.  Mylon and Wendy married in 1995 and the Lord has blessed them with three talented children: twin sons Conner and Bailey and daughter Kennedy. This stellar lineup has become beloved in their own right.

This incredible album ushers the listener into worship with the Gaither classic “Let’s Just Praise The Lord.” Kennedy Hayes takes the lead on the verses of this great song. “Garden Tomb” is a joyful, mid-tempo tune featuring Bailey Hayes and simply tells of the Resurrection of Jesus. The family’s stellar harmonies are showcased beautifully on the classic “Satisfied.” The arrangement is very similar if not the same as the version done by the Gaither Vocal Band. Conner Hayes’s smooth bass shines on the classic “My Lord Will Send A Moses.” This fun tune reminds us that God is faithful and will lead you through your trials. The family does an incredible job on the Cathedrals classic “God Himself The Lamb.” This powerful anthem tells of Christ’s Ultimate Sacrifice. God sent His Son to cleanse us of our sins. God provided Himself the Lamb the only sacrifice that sin demands. “Heaven’s Joy Awaits” is a fun, classic convention style song. The family does it justice in my opinion.  The group delivers a fantastic instrumental rendition of two more classics with “I Need Thee Every Hour/If We Ever Needed The Lord Before.” The family’s beautiful harmonies are showcased once again on a stellar acapella rendition of “It Took A Miracle.” This powerful hymn simply says: it took a miracle of Love and Grace to save my soul. Matriarch Wendy Hayes takes the lead on the tender ballad “So Much To Thank Him For.” This sweet song praises Christ for all He has done in our lives. Next, the group delivers a fantastic rendition of the quartet classic “When God’s Chariot Comes,” made popular by the Happy Goodmans among others. I love that they have brought this song back and breathed new life into it. Conner’s bass step out before the last chorus is brilliant. It reminded me of when Bill Gaither and Rex Nelon sang that part with the Goodmans on their farewell video. This incredible album closes with a rousing rendition of the hymns “I Will Praise Him/Hallelujah Praise The Lamb.”

FINAL THOUGHTS:

THE MYLON HAYES FAMILY HAVE A NEW FAN IN ME. I HAD BEEN AWARE OF THIS GROUP FOR A WHILE BUT HAD NOT INTENTLY LISTENED TO OR FEATURED THEM ON THIS SITE.  I AM THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED BY THEM. I CAN TELL THEY BELIEVE WHAT THEY SING ABOUT. STELLAR VOCALS, INCREDIBLE MIX OF SONGS, AND TOP NOTCH MUSICIANSHIP. HIGHLIGHTS: “WHEN GOD’S CHARIOT COMES,” “MY LORD WILL SEND A MOSES,” “I WILL PRAISE HIM/HALLELUJAH PRAISE THE LAMB,” “SO MUCH TO THANK HIM FOR,” “HEAVEN’S JOY AWAITS,” AND “GOD HIMSELF THE LAMB.”
