BREAKDOWN:
The continued presence of Southern Gospel Music on the West Coast is thanks in large part to California’s Herb Henry. The retired pastor, who was recently inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall Of Fame, has promoted Gospel concerts on the west coast for over thirty years. In addition, he along with his family have been singing together as the Herb Henry Family since 1986. Currently, the group features Herb Henry singing baritone/bass, his son Chris singing lead, his daughter Amanda singing soprano, and longtime friend and pastor of Richland Faith Assembly of God in Modesto,California singing lead/baritone.
I had the pleasure of attending the Great Western Fan Festival held in Visalia, California back in May where the Herb Henry Family are a cherished staple group. It was my first time seeing the group in concert and I was thoroughly impressed. They are genuine people both on and off stage. They graciously gave me this 30th Anniversary project to review.
Worship The Name of The Lord features thirteen great songs of hope and inspiration. This incredible album opens with the stirring title track that ushers listeners into a time of worship. “I Know He Can” is a groovy, mid-tempo tune that reminds us that God will help us. He can bear the burden of the whole world in His Hands. Put your faith in Him and call on His Name. Amanda Henry takes the lead on a stellar rendition of “The Blood Remains.” This powerful song praises Christ for His Sacrifice. Time marches on, but the Blood remains. “God Can Save Anybody, Anywhere, Anytime” is a fun, up-tempo classic tune that features Richie Hartsfield that simply says: God can save anyone. I know that He can because He saved me! Herb Henry takes the lead on the Vep Ellis penned track “Riding The Range.” This mid-tempo country style tune simply says: We are riding the range for Jesus. We are seeking the lost and gone astray. We are waiting on the call from Heaven for the round up at the end of the day.“Get On Board” is another fun track that encourages listeners to put their trust in Jesus. Get on board before this old ship sails away! Amanda takes the lead again on the beautiful mid-tempo “Won’t It Be Wonderful There.” This great song written by Greater Vision’s Chris Allman looks to Heaven and the joy that awaits us there. “But God” is a beautiful ballad that reminds us that God is always watching over us. Whatever you are facing, give your burdens to Him. God considers your heartaches as His own. You need no other but God. “My Hope Is In The Lord” is a fun, up-tempo tune that reminds us that in Christ we find perfect peace. I will not be defeated for my hope is in the Lord. “Somebody Prays” is a well crafted lyric that reminds us of the power of prayer. Just see what the Lord can do when somebody prays! Former member Angela Henry Cowell joins her family once again on the powerful ballad “Whenever I Hear His Name.” This incredible song praises Jesus for saving us. Chris Henry takes the lead on another powerful anthem “Once Upon A Cross.” This incredible song tells of Christ’s ultimate Sacrifice. One single act of matchless Grace brought hope to all mankind! This special album closes with the Jr. Henry Family (now called Faith Valley) singing a rousing rendition of “Do You Hear The Cry.” The Henry and Hartsfield children are carrying on the legacy of this music and their family well.
