BREAKDOWN:
For nearly 70 years, The Kingsmen Quartet has been spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in song. In 2022, the group released a two volume collection featuring thirty-two timeless hits from their long, storied career. Given the success of this compilation, the group has gone back into the archives for a second time and now presents two more volumes of hits, rarities, and personal favorites of the group. This special release, compiled by group member Alan Kendall and Crossroads Music executive Greg Bentley, features thirty-nine songs that are sure to delight longtime fans and new ones alike. The current lineup has been in the studio re-recording many of the classics in anticipation of their upcoming 70th anniversary. Three of those tracks are included on this release and given a fresh new update. “Saints Will Rise” features new bass Brady Jones on the classic step-out lines as well as a fun guest appearance from Ray Dean Reese. Thomas Nalley delivers an incredible vocal on the timeless classic “The Judgment.” Brady Jones also shines on a fresh take on the fun, up-tempo “So High.” Brady Jones is an incredible bass singer at just twenty years old. Other songs of note are: an alternate 1992 studio cut of “The Cross Has Won Again,” “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” from 1960, “Farther Along” from 1961, a special instrumental version of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, and a transcription from an appearance on the popular Bob Poole’s Gospel Favorites in 1965.
This is another truly special release from this incredible group. It is great to listen to all of these fantastic songs again featuring all of the great Kingmen members of the past. This project is also dedicated to former Kingsmen member Philip Hughes who passed away earlier this year. Hughes was not only an incredible lead vocalist, he was a great man of God and encourager. He will be deeply missed.
Personal Favorites include: “Saints Will Rise,” “So High,” “I’ll Turn Back,” “God Sits On High,” “Go And Tell Somebody,” “Called Out,” “Cheer The Weary Traveler,” “Beautiful Home,” “Healin’ Stream,” “God Made A Way,” “When They Call My Name,” and “I’ll Sail Away Yonder.”
