THOUGHTS:
Family harmony is truly special. Pair that with powerful, worshipful, and beautifully written songs and you get an anointed album. The Erwins are back with their first new full length album in three years. Siblings Keith, Kody, Kris, and Katie (along with her husband Logan) shine on this new recording featuring nine incredible songs. Life Story is honestly their best record to date without question. The year is still young, but this project is already in contention for best of the year for me personally. I was blown away by not only the vocals, but the incredible songs, the production quality,and the musicianship.
This stellar album opens with the upbeat “Taste And See,” which invites us to the table of Christ. Only He can satisfy our needs! Taste and see that He is Good. Come to Him all who are weary. “Still Telling My Story” is a fun track (featuring Kody and Keith) that powerfully proclaims: “Bring on the fire and the rain. My testimony is not gonna change. From the valley to the mountain, my God is worthy of praise. No matter what comes before me, I’m still telling my story.” “None But Jesus” praises Christ the Only Hope. Keith and Katie deliver the lyrics beautifully. He saves and satisfies my soul! I am a witness! None but Jesus! “Back To The Garden” is a beautiful and deeply moving track that says: Lord, lead me into Your Presence. Take me deeper into your Glory! Keith does an incredible job delivering this powerful lyric. Katie takes the lead on mid-tempo track “Red Words.” This comforting lyric simply says: fear not for Christ has overcome the world. He is always faithful. The sweetest message I have ever heard is in red words. Kris takes the lead on “Walking Free,” a beautiful track that praises Christ for setting us free. “Every chain is in pieces and I’m walking free.” “Joy Is Gonna Come” is a fun, catchy tune that reminds us that joy is going to come in the morning for God is good. He will bring us through every trial. He works all things for the good of those who love Him. Kody takes the lead on a powerful ballad entitled “I Only Have The Cross To Blame.” This incredible song tells of the transforming power of Christ. We are made new in Christ. This worship filled album closes with another powerful ballad entitled “Fighting For You.” Christ is fighting for you always. Oh, how He loves us.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
THIS ALBUM IS TRULY SPECIAL. THE BEST PROJECT THIS TALENTED GROUP HAS RELEASED TO DATE. I USUALLY PICK A FEW SONGS TO HIGHLIGHT AS MY FAVORITES, BUT I CANNOT THIS TIME. EACH SONG IS SIMPLY THAT GOOD! THE FUTURE OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC IS BRIGHT AND IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW! IT IS SO REFRESHING TO SEE SO MANY OF MY FELLOW YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS MUSIC. THESE ANOINTED SIBLINGS ARE PAVING THE WAY FOR SO MANY MORE AND ARE CARRYING ON THE RICH LEGACY OF THIS SPECIAL MUSIC.
